Jim paints vibrant landscapes of the North West of Scotland and atmospheric cityscapes of London and Edinburgh with glistening pavements and reflected lights. He exhibits widely throughout Scotland and the South East of England.

He says “The inspiration for my work is the landscape. My paintings attempt to convey my response to the colours, mood and forms found in such diverse places as the North West Highlands of Scotland and cities. I do not seek to portray the landscape as we see it with the naked eye, but to capture the intense emotions I experience in certain places, a windswept Scottish hillside with its deep purples and rusts, a busy city street or a tranquil riverside scene. Places move me”.

His work has been selected for the exhibitions of both the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour and the Royal Watercolour Society and is held in private collections throughout the world.
